Look For GMC Hoses

GMC hoses for a Sierra should be easy to find due to the popularity of the model. GMC sold 83,174 Sierras in the first half of 2008.

Replacing GMC Hoses in a Car or Truck

  • Before you begin, gather the necessary tools. You'll need a screwdriver, a razor blade or knife, steel wool or sandpaper, a rag, new clamps and the new hose(s). You may also need a flashlight, depending on where and when you do the repairs.
  • First, remove the old hose. Unscrew the clamps and move them toward the center. Use the knife or razor blade to cut the old hose. Cut from the edge toward the center. Peel it off the connections.
  • Use the sandpaper or steel wool to scrub the connections to remove rust or other debris. Wipe the connections with the rag to remove shavings and other dirt.
  • Place the new clamps near the ends of the hose, a little further in than they will eventually end up. Place the new hose over both connections.
  • Move the clamps into place and tighten to secure.

If you are replacing heater hoses, for example, where there are two hoses that connect to the same part, replace both at the same time. Also, don't forget to drain the coolant before removing anything.
