Look For Ford Hoses

Replacing Ford hoses in their most popular car models, including the Mustang, is a relatively simple job, the basics of which will not be different between different model years, or even different models. The actual placement of the parts may vary, but the general instructions will be the same.

How to Replace Ford Hoses

To do this job on your Mustang, you will need:

  • A screwdriver to loosen the clamps
  • Steel wool or sandpaper to clean the connections
  • A rag to wipe the connections clean after sanding or scrubbing
  • New Ford hoses and clamps
  • A knife or razor blade
  • A container for the coolant

Once you have all the parts assembled, drain the coolant. Then, loosen the screws and move the clamps inward. Remove the hose, cutting it if necessary. Clean the connections. Put the new clamps near the center of the new hose. Place it between the connections. Move the clamps the ends of the hose and tighten with the screwdriver. Do not over-tighten the screws or you may cause premature aging and disfiguration. Remember, you should replace all the hoses that connect to the part at the same time.

After you've finished doing your repairs, turn on the engine. If the hose pops off one of the connections, turn off the engine, let it cool and then attempt to secure the clamps again. If the problem persists, you may have purchased the wrong size hose or clamps.
