How to Replace an Auto Serpentine Belt in a Lincoln Continental
To keep your Lincoln Continental in good working order, inspect both the belts and hoses at least twice a year. When you do your visual inspection, look for these things:
- Are there cracks in the belt?
- Are the edges frayed?
- Are there pieces of rubber missing?
- Is it glossy?
These are all signs that the part needs to be replaced. To replace a serpentine belt in the Lincoln Continental, first release the tension by moving the tensioner pulley to relieve pressure on the belt. After removing the belt from all of the components it attaches to, set the old part aside. If it is only mildly damaged, keep it as a spare in case roadside repairs are necessary.
Remove the part from the packaging and wrap it around the components. Move the tensioner pulley to allow the belt to wrap around it and then release it. Don't forget to check the tension with a tension gauge to make sure it is correct. If your Continental has V-belts, make sure to replace all of them at once, even if only one shows wear or damage. This ensures even tension and wear and makes it easy to keep track of mileage.
