Find Jeep Auto Belts
Jeep belts are one of the parts on your vehicle that need to be replaced regularly, preferably before they break. There are a few ways to tell if your auto needs a new serpentine belt.
How to Tell It's Time to Replace Your Jeep Belts
Look for raised metal "stripes" on the belt tensioner. On the bracket the tensioner is attached to, there should be a single raised line. On the tensioner, there should be a set of two lines and a single line somewhere above that. These are indicators.
When the line on the bracket is in line with the two stripes that are close together, the belt is still in its new state. As the belt stretches, the tension will ease on the tensioner and it will rotate around. When the indicator line on the bracket is in line with the single line on the tensioner, that means the belt is stretched out as much as is safe and it's time to replace.
This, like the guidelines for the mileage amounts for changing parts, is just one part of the equation, though. Frequently do visual checks of the belt to make sure it is still in good shape. Even if it isn't stretched out, it can still be cracked or frayed and need to be replaced.
