Check For Buick Belts And Hoses

Buick belts and hoses need to be replaced periodically. If they aren't, they can wear to the point where they break while you're driving. Not only will this necessitate emergency roadside repairs, but it can also do serious damage to your engine.

When to Replace Buick Belts and Hoses

The manual for the car will tell you at what mileage the belts and hoses should be replaced. This is only a rough guide, though. You should do a visual check of your hoses at least twice a year. When you're doing your inspection, keep these questions in mind:

  • Is the hose cracked around the edges?
  • Is the hose too soft or too hard?
  • Are there visible bulges in the hose?

If the answer to any of these questions is "yes," then it's time to replace the hose. While some Buick models, like the Regal, use the same parts for several model years in a row, it is still a good idea to check to see which model years the replacement part is intended for. Also remember that some hoses come in the exact length for the car while others need to be cut to fit.

When checking your hoses, do a quick visual inspection of your belts, as well. You're looking for frayed edges, cracks, glossiness or missing pieces. Also, check the pulleys for nicks and corrosion. They may need to be replaced as well.
